A recent study from home renovation and interior design platform Houzz has found that the UK is the country with the biggest passion for home improvement.

The study found that over 75% of British homeowners renovated their home in some form during 2014 and are planning future renovation projects for 2016.

These findings place the UK above France, Germany and Italy. Here at home improvement specialists JH Building & Maintenance we’ve certainly seen an influx of homeowners looking to step-up the look of their home in recent years, and we’re more than happy to assist!

There are many reasons why homeowners may decide to kick-start a home improvement campaign at their property, but this study established that the primary reason for choosing to get in the renovators was the purchase of a home.

When you move into a new home, it’s essentially a blank canvas, so decorating is often the best way to put your own stamp on the property.

Having increased availability of financial means was another reason cited for the increase in the levels of home improvement. More people are now choosing to spend money on their property’s appearance, especially as it’s likely to add a handsome amount onto the home's sale price if it’s looking in tip-top shape.

However, most owners will not have the budget to redecorate multiple rooms in their home, and if this is the case, then instead focus your attention on one or two rooms to enhance your property.

Living rooms and kitchens were the most popular interior renovation projects tackled in 2014; 29% and 27% respectively.

Installing new heating was the top system, and this will only increase further in the next couple of months as we enter the depths of winter and homeowners want to ensure that they have adequate heating facilities to get them through the cold spells.

It should come as no surprise that people are choosing to concentrate their creativity into the kitchen space, either, as this room really has come into its own in recent years.

The increasing number of cookery shows and the relentless success of The Great British Bake Off have made the kitchen an increasingly utilised and more sociable space, and a place which should always look its best.

If you feel like your home requires a bit of a revamp, then it’s always best to get in the experts, and homeowners questioned in this report agreed.

Over 90% of those asked said that they favoured getting in the experts such as the south-London based team at JH Building & Maintenance as opposed to completing the work themselves. Doing it yourself can often lead to unnecessary expense and time wasted if the work isn’t completed correctly.

Those questioned also valued the opinions from testimonials and reviews before choosing a company to complete the work. Here at JH Building & Maintenance we have plenty of testimonials you can take a look at, or plenty of pictures of our previous projects, too.
