Gatha connects investors and developers to make deals happen
A new free social media app has launched this week, open only to those who work in UK property and construction, which its founders say will enable better visibility for those in the sector.
Founded by brothers Chris and David Tremlett, the pair argue that platforms such as LinkedIn and Facebook are designed to sell advertising and to show users what the algorithms think they want to see – which means that things such as a landlord’s question, a builder’s finished job and an agent’s local knowledge get lost in the mix unless they invest heavily in advertising spend.
Feeds are built around a member’s role and patch, rather than follower counts, which the pair says gives a sole trader equal standing with a national brand. The site includes various boards – including a jobs board which puts trades and developers in touch directly and a projects board which lists sites and developments for sale or seeking investment, filtered by strategy from HMO and buy-to-let to student. Members message each other directly.
The greater visibility of sites and developments available for sale or seeking investment means that deals don’t get lost, since they are put directly in front of investors, with contact just a message away.
Claim your place
Chris Tremlett, co-founder of Gatha, said: “David and I were estate agents. We know what it is to post about a property, a deal or a job and watch it disappear because you didn’t pay to boost it. LinkedIn and Facebook were never built for us. They were built to sell our attention to advertisers, and property has been paying for the privilege for years. “This industry builds the country. It should not have to beg an algorithm to be heard. So we are asking everyone in property to do one thing: come and claim your place on a platform that belongs to you.”
Users can access the free “Gatha: Property Network” app via the usual download sites or from gatha.uk. They can then set up a profile, pick their role and patch, and begin posting.
