Region retains first place in the browsing list for overseas investors
British buyers continue to favour the Algarve when searching for an overseas property, new research from Rightmove reveals.
The region retains the number one spot from last year, followed by Paphos in Cyprus and Mallorca in Spain. Overall, Spain is the most searched for country, followed by France and Italy.
Nick Robertson, Rightmove’s director of overseas, said: “Whether it’s a permanent move, a second home abroad or more casual summer browsing during the holidays, we’re seeing that many British home-hunters are still drawn to familiar favourite destinations.
Key time to explore
“For those thinking seriously about buying abroad, summer can be a really key time to explore what different locations have to offer, from the type of homes available to practical considerations of moving overseas or buying a holiday home.”
However, Ian Harris, NAEA Propertymark president, said investors should be careful when considering an overseas purchase. “While destinations such as the Algarve, Mallorca and Paphos remain enduring favourites, prospective buyers should ensure their decision is based on careful planning rather than the attraction of a holiday setting alone.
“Understanding local property laws, taxation, residency requirements and ongoing ownership costs is vital before making any commitment. Working with knowledgeable, regulated property professionals can help consumers make informed decisions and avoid costly mistakes when purchasing overseas.”
