Revealed – the most desirable holiday home features

In a new survey, more than 1,500 home hunters shared exactly which features their overseas dream home would include.

The survey was conducted by overseas property consultants at YourOverseasHome.com and the results can be used to help sellers and landlords abroad make their property more attractive.

The data focused on property purchases abroad in destinations including France and Spain in May 2022.

Non-negotiable dream property features

The survey reveals that living within walking distance to shops and cafes was valued among 71% of respondents. 68% required a garden and 54% wanted a good view.

Only 50% hoped to have a property with private parking and only 35% wanted a property with a pool.

Older properties were deemed the most popular as 35% set their eyes on a home that looked more traditional whereas only 15% hoped for a modern-looking abode. 

Christopher Nye, chief editor at YourOverseasHome.com, said: “Everybody has a different idea of what their dream home would look like and the features it would ideally include, but when it comes to homes abroad, it looks like there are a few essentials that most people tend to agree on.”

“In this case, convenience is key, as the majority of our respondents wanted to be close to shops and cafes. It’s also great to see that people are continuing to value older, traditional properties over more modern alternatives.”
