Crosslane secures planning permission on Coventry student development

Crosslane Student Developments has secured planning consent for a 266-bed, purpose-built student accommodation development in Coventry.

The scheme, which is set to be completed in time for the 2019/20 academic year, will be built on Harper Road, not far from Coventry University and the centre of the city.

Prime Student Living, the student accommodation lettings and operational management arm of the Crosslane Property Group, the umbrella group that Crosslane Student Developments is part of, will be responsible for ‘marketing, lettings, management and achieving full occupancy prior to completion’.

Situated on a former Dairy Crest site, the development is a mere two-minute stroll from Coventry University’s main campus and only ten minutes from the city centre. It will be made up of 266 en-suite bedrooms in cluster flats of four, five, six and seven. The flats will share a lounge, kitchen and dining area, as well as providing a free-to-use washer dryer in every kitchen.

The new development will also include a number of communal facilities, including a large common room, a study hub and meeting space, gym and bike storage and superfast 100MB WiFi throughout the building.

Coventry, which was recently named UK City of Culture 2021, is home to the fastest growing university by student enrolment in the UK, with some 24,600 full-time students in the city.

Crosslane has already achieved planning permission for its Friars’ Road scheme in Coventry, which means it will be delivering a total of 880 new student beds ready for student occupation in the city by the start of the 2019/20 academic year.

DAY Architectural have been appointed as the architects for the development.

“Crosslane is pleased to have secured planning consent successfully for its new purpose-built student accommodation development on Harper Road, Coventry, following extensive engagement with the local planning authority on the design and a public consultation process with local residents,” Mike Moran, development manager at Crosslane Student Developments, said.

“Following the recent successful planning application for its scheme at Friars Road in Coventry, Crosslane is looking forward to investing further in this fantastic student city and supporting the University’s growth ambitions as well as helping to ease the wider housing shortage, by building and managing high-quality, centrally located student accommodation.”
