For the second year running Basildon has been crowned as London’s most affordable commuter location.

According to research carried out by CBRE, which has earmarked the Top 10 Most Affordable and Top 10 Most Sought After commuter locations in the South East of England, the Essex town is the place to head for workers looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the capital.

“The combination of a lower average house price with affordable train fares into the capital city means that areas such as Basildon, Luton and Harlow have maintained their ‘Top 3’ position for increased value for money in London’s commuter belt,” Jennet Siebrits, Head of Residential Research at CBRE, said.

A brand new entry from last year, Rickmansworth took third place in the Most Sought After category. The area’s average house price of £563,655 and a commute time of only 27 minutes into London both mean that this small Hertfordshire town is forecast to see a large upsurge in popularity.

Siebrits added: “Gerrards Cross and Beaconsfield continue to appeal to those commuters seeking easy access into Central London and Heathrow, with close links to the M40 and M4 motorway and, less surprisingly, remain in the Top 3 places for the Most Sought After category.”
