It's quite normal to be "obsessed" with buying a property. Real estate is among the most valuable and resistant over time asset. Besides, having a property in a country like UK is considered a great investment - the country is rich, with stable government and constantly rising property prices. Having a home is not just a necessity - it is a long term retirement policy ;)

People need homes...What people - low and middle class London citizens or the wealthy Russians and Arabs, that have caused the property houses to skyrocket during the last decade? What housing - social housing for the many Londoners who can't afford market price property or upscale fancy mansions for the wealthy foreigners?

"as landlords look to cover costs" there is a thin line between covering cost and pure greed. The mortgage costs excuse is often used to justify unnatural property rent rises, especially in London. Reconsidering the tax relief abolition is a must do for the government, if they want to protect the most vulnerable social classes from a berserk room rents increase.

With the Panama papers scandal peaking throughout the entire globe, trying to avoid taxes is not the best thing to do at the moment. Besides, when will all business people learn that paying taxes is important for the common good - the richer one state is, the richer its citizens and businesses will be. Greed will be our civilization's undoing...
