New homes given green light in New Forest

The green light has been given by New Forest District Council to Metis Homes, experienced and highly reputable property developers since 2008, to set their sights on building a boutique collection of brand-new homes at Burgate Acres, just north of Fordingbridge Town Centre –bringing much-needed housing to the local community.

The Hampshire-based housebuilder has secured planning consent for 63 homes, with an emphasis on high-quality design and landscaping, ranging from one-bedroom apartments to four-bedroom houses, including affordable housing, thus providing a healthy variety of accommodation options for first-time buyers and families.

Since Metis Homes choose prime locations where people want to live and offers bespoke homes designed with great care, this 'exciting development project' will allow homeowners to explore their environment and 'find delight' in outdoor spaces.

Greener pastures

With this unique location, Metis Homes says it has made certain that the cottage-style residences available will be arranged in a variety of forms including detached, semi-attached, and short terraces, and will be specifically constructed to complement and preserve the natural surroundings of the area.

In addition, each property will be equipped with an electric car charging point in the parking area, whilst some of the detached houses will have solar panels.

The development site is part of strategic site 18 (SS18) which has been allocated for housing in the draft NFDC Local Plan and Metis’ strategy will help protect sensitive greenfield land within the New Forest by building on an identified residential site and will retain the existing landscape setting, complemented with additional tree planting.

Get closer to nature

Named Forest Edge, the scheme will incorporate discreet on-site parking, a mature landscape setting, a large open space at the heart with a dedicated dog exercise area, wildflower planting, footpaths, and cycleways, informal grass ‘kick-about area’, and natural play area, thus creating an exciting new addition to the neighbourhood and attractive outlook to help encourage families and friends to enjoy outside open spaces.

The nearby Burgate School will be served by improved access from the south, utilising the current slip road leading to the turning circle, and therefore reducing congestion at peak drop-off and pick-up times. The existing bus lane which connects the turning circle with the A338 will be closed, and instead, one-way access linking the turning circle with the new residential estate road will be installed. This is ideal for families since the school will also benefit from a new drop-off layby on the slip road to the school.

Plans in the pipeline

Construction is due to begin this summer by Metis, with Phase One launching off-plan simultaneously, and homes are eagerly expected to be move-in ready by spring/summer 2023.

Adam O’Brien, managing director, commented: “Development of this site has been a long-term vision given our original interest in the land began in 2017. We are pleased to have the opportunity to develop the local community and economy further with a good selection of new houses that we hope will create happy homes.”
