A converted church in Corfe Castle is up for sale in Network Auctions’ latest online auction on September 22.

Churches, which often top the wish list for unusual homes, have increasingly been converted in recent years when they have fallen into disrepair or have fallen out of use – in part due to the UK becoming increasingly secular.

Network Auctions claims the Old Church of St James not only offers the opportunity for the new owner ‘to create a bespoke paradise’, but says it’s also in the ‘most blessed of prime locations’, situated close to Corfe Castle and a stone’s throw from Studland, one of the most expensive property spots in Dorset.

With a guide price of only £475,000-plus, the Grade II-listed converted church (which has been deconsecrated), has an internal space of 2,787 sq. ft and is arranged as a four-bedroom, two bathroom detached house and sits in a plot of nearly 0.45 acres.

The firm says that, like any good auction lot, the converted church – which was built in 1833 – requires some repairs, or rather ‘finishing works’. However, the auctioneer estimates that when the works are complete, the property would have an end value far in excess of £1 million.

Richard Worrall, Network Auctions’ auctioneer, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to make the property into a unique family home of character and style in this truly stunning location. The elevated position means there are superb views of Corfe Castle, Poole Harbour and the surrounding countryside from both the grounds and within the property.”

The Old Church of St James, Langton Road, Corfe Castle, Dorset, BH20 5LR will be sold by Network Auctions in their online auction on September 22. For more information, you can visit www.networkauctions.co.uk.
