Once famous homebuilder auctions off last lots of land

A once highly-esteemed building company has instructed Network Auctions to commence the sale of eleven plots of land assets in its December auction.

The lots – which are the residue of housing estates that were built many years ago – will be sold under the hammer with guide prices starting as low as £1,000.

Included are 8.5 acres in Christchurch (£25,000-plus) and 2.84 acres in Stevenage (£10,000-plus) – both have opportunities to gain planning on verges and odd parcels within the titles.

Toby Limbrick, director of Network Auctions, says: “We expect quite a few investors and speculators to see the real potential in some of these lots and who may be able to squeeze a dwelling in.”

Davis Estates rose to fame in the late 1930s for designing and building spacious council houses on pleasant estates with parks and broad walks.  Between the 1940s to the 1970s, they exhibited their fully-constructed show houses at the Ideal Home Exhibitions and a number of films were made about their work.

The housebuilder is fondly remembered by generations of homeowners and first council house residents, with a toy model of a Davis Estates truck recently sold by auction to a bidder in America for $8,000.

Richard Worrall, director of Network Auctions, adds: “This is the first number of plots going to the auction room, we have been instructed to sell more, which we will release into the auction room over the next year.”

“This represents an incredible buying opportunity for savvy operators who can see the potential for further development, subject to planning, and also accesses into other areas of development where these lots of land may be seen as ransom strips.”

The plots of land are geographically dispersed throughout the south and include many sought-after locations including: Godalming, Surrey; Oxford; Leatherhead; Tunbridge Wells, Kent; Christchurch, Dorset; Stevenage, Hertfordshire and Lewes.

They will feature at Network Auction’s ballroom auction at The Westbury Mayfair Hotel, London, on December 5. For more information, you can visit www.networkauctions.co.uk.
