While Guy Fawkes Night went off with a bang this week, Clive Emson Auctioneers reported sales in excess of £17 million in its rocketing autumn auction.

The seventh of eight sales took place across five days in five venues from October 28 to November 1, achieving a success rate of 75% after cataloguing 130 lots.

James Emson, managing director of Clive Emson Auctioneers, says despite the ongoing national uncertainty surrounding Brexit, 2019 has proved that property remains an excellent investment.

“As we approach our final sale of the year, we can reflect on continued good results for the company. Our pre-Christmas sale will certainly be serving up some Christmas crackers.”

Highlights of the autumn auction included:

  • A seafront flat with direct sea views in the iconic Art Deco ship-like Marine Court building in St Leonards, East Sussex, which went for £56,000 leasehold as an investment property.
  • The substantial former post office and sorting office in Freshwater, Isle of Wight, with planning consent in place for conversion to up to five flats, which sold for £166,000 freehold.
  • A ground floor shop with an upper floor four-bedroom apartment in a terrace in Westgate-on-Sea, Kent, which sold for £230,000 freehold. Part-let, it generates £6,250 per annum.
  • A former Conservative Club in Torquay, with existing planning consent for conversion to three homes, which sold for £165,000.
  • Land with outline planning consent for two homes in the popular River Blackwater sailing location of St Lawrence Bay, Essex, went for £172,000.

The firm holds a regional auction at five locations every six weeks. The eighth and final sale of 2019 will start at 11am at the following venues:

Essex & North and East London – Monday December 9 at the Chelmsford City Racecourse, Chelmsford.

Kent & SE London – Tuesday December 10 at the Clive Emson Conference Centre, Detling, Maidstone, Kent.

Sussex & Surrey – Wednesday December 11 at the Hilton Brighton Metropole, Brighton.

West Country – Thursday December 12 at the St Mellion International Resort, Saltash.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight – Friday December 13 at the Solent Hotel at Whiteley, near Fareham.
