Investment hotspots - the best new-build developments in the Costa del Sol

Despite Brexit, Spain has reclaimed its status as a hotspot for British buyers, with the Costa del Sol a firm favourite.

Last year, 30% of homes on Costa del Sol were purchased by foreign buyers, with 16% of the purchases made by British buyers.

Following nearly a decade when practically no residential homes were built as a result of the global financial crisis, construction activity is increasing, and British buyers are flocking to the market to own a slice of it for themselves.


According to Spain’s National Statistics Institute, a total of 78,000 new dwellings were granted permits across Spain in 2018, an increase of 23.1% from 2017. New builds made up 17% of property sales with this percentage continuing to grow.

The hardships faced by Spain following the global financial crisis are well in the past. Buyer confidence is back, and developers have returned to the market.

In the Costa del Sol alone, there are currently more than 200 new construction projects going on, which cater for all budgets, from exclusive multi-million-euro villas fit for royalty to affordable golf apartments or townhouses suited to families and retirees.

Here is our insight on the Costa del Sol’s best new-build developments:

Best for retirees: Mijas Costa, prices from €300,000

Mijas Costa on the Costa del Sol is a popular spot for Brits seeking a sunny retirement in Spain.
