Apartment rental brand opens 45-storey tower

Rental start-up UNCLE has announced the launch of its 45-storey rental building in Elephant and Castle, the latest in its expanding portfolio of rental properties across the UK.

Offering a straight-forward approach for renters who typically struggle to reach landlords, UNCLE allows residents up to two weeks to decide if the apartment is right for them before cancelling the contract with no strings attached.

The UNCLE brand also owns and manages the building and all of the properties in its entirety, meaning residents need not worry about a middle-man or agent. It also conducts the viewings – evening and weekends included – with no added fees.

Resident managers are on hand 24/7 to assist with anything from welcoming residents on viewing day, to sorting out repairs. They will also return a day’s rent if typical issues aren’t fixed within 48 hours.

“We want to take the ‘lord’ attitude out of the word ‘landlord’,” said Ryan Prince, founder and chief executive officer of UNCLE. “We’re not living in feudal times anymore and believe people deserve better.”

“We hate how landlords make promises and break them. At UNCLE we keep our promises with consequences to us if we don’t.”

UNCLE Elephant and Castle joined forces with ‘starchitect’ firm Rogers Stirk Harbour to create a design-savvy and service-led environment. Each apartment in the building boasts a balcony, contemporary interior design from award-winning Swedish designer Staffan Tolgård and furniture and fittings by MADE.com. Prices start from £1800 per month.

The building’s Sky Lounge sits on the entire 45th floor of the SE1 property. Usually reserved for a penthouse, this space is divided into zones for day and night, dedicated for everyone to enjoy. Residents can access a shared work space, decked-out kitchen, chill space, dining area and bar.

Prince added: “Elephant and Castle is our fourth location and certainly our flagship. We think the views from the Sky Lounge are better than the Shard and we won’t charge you £30 if residents want to bring guests up there either.”
