A Grade II listed former military barracks in Pembrokeshire is being offered for sale at John Pye Property’s next online auction.

Built around 1844, the Old Defensible Barracks were previously used to house an army garrison as part of land defences for the Pembroke dockyard.

Richard Reed, head of property at John Pye Property, said the barracks presented an exciting opportunity for potential developers and buy-to-let investors as the east wing has recently been divided into five completed flats.

“Although renovation work is required on this property, the barracks would make a great venture for an investor for someone looking for buy-to-let opportunities,” he said. “Historical properties are always popular at our auctions and it would be fantastic to see this site restored to its true potential.”

Located north of Pembroke, around 100 miles from Cardiff, the 45,000 sq ft property sits on 4.45 acres of land and has been partially renovated with further work required to the north, south and west wings.

It not only offers a business opportunity through the potential rental flats, but also the opportunity to provide holiday lets. In addition, there is a separate detached unit located towards the north-east perimeter of the site, with intended future use as a coffee shop or cottage. The property also includes a former workshop building.

“We anticipate there being a lot of interest in this building when it is offered to auction on November 21 and 22 with a guide price of £850,000,” Reed added. “There is ample space to develop the premises, to let the pre-existing flats and also to open a business in the separate detached unit.”
