More than £7 million is being ploughed into a new housing estate in Sunderland, giving hope to eager first-time buyers looking to purchase through the government’s Help to Buy scheme.

A total of 35 affordable homes are set to be completed later this year at the Barnes View estate in Nookside, Grindon. First-time buyers will be encouraged to take their first step on the housing ladder with various incentives on the properties, while the development will also provide opportunities to buy large family homes and spacious bungalows.

The estate, being constructed by Canvas Homes, will include two and three bedroom homes, along with 12 bungalows. The properties will all be available from autumn 2018. Bradley Hall – a firm of chartered surveyors and estate agents based in the North East – has been chosen to market the properties from its Sunderland office.

“This new estate will provide a much-needed range of different properties and also offer the government’s Help to Buy scheme, helping to meet the needs of individuals by offering affordable and modern living space in a great location,” Lee Francis, area director for Keepmoat Regeneration in the North East, part of the ENGIE Group, said.

“We have worked with a number of authorities and businesses, using their knowledge and expertise to ensure that the best quality homes will be on offer and this is exciting for anybody looking to move into a new home this year.”

Matt Hoy, director of Bradley Hall estate agency, added: “This is a fantastic opportunity for local people to purchase or rent high quality housing in a popular area of the city. The dedicated Bradley Hall Sunderland team will be on hand to assist anyone who expresses their interest in these properties. The selection of properties at Barnes View offers a range of housing options which meet all requirements.”
