Britain’s largest independent regional land and property auctioneer, Clive Emson Auctioneers, sold land and property worth over £18m at its September auction.

The firm catalogued 140 lots, achieving a sale rate of 80%.

“Our well-attended and successful September sale has belied talk of doom and gloom around the industry,” said managing director, James Emson. “Packed salerooms and excellent results achieved for both vendors and purchasers are testaments to the enduring popularity of bricks and mortar.”

September sales from the independent firm, which works with 850 high street estate agents across southern England, included: a £402,000 five-bedroom house overlooking Polperro harbour, east Cornwall, an equestrian centre on a 3.76-acre site in Tiptree, Essex at £800,000, and a Victorian building in the centre of Faversham, Kent which sold for £500,000.

Emson continued: “Our traditional saleroom auction complements our online auction service which is attracting a whole new generation of tech-savvy property buyers, sellers, investors and developers.”

Ten Brighton city centre car parking spaces were also part of the transaction, which sold for £291,000 after a bidding war topping the freehold lower guide by £101,000. A lock-up garage in Southsea, Hampshire, where parking and garaging are at a premium, went under the auctioneer’s hammer for £15,000.

Emson holds a regional auction at five locations every six weeks. The October/November auctions, starting at 11am, is at the following venues:

Kent & SE London – Clive Emson Conference Centre, Detling, Maidstone, Kent (October 30)

Essex & North and East London – Chelmsford City Racecourse, Chelmsford (October 31)

Sussex & Surrey – Hilton Brighton Metropole, Brighton (November 1)

Hampshire & Isle of Wight – Ageas Bowl, Southampton (November 2)

West Country – St. Mellion International Resort, Saltash (November 3)
