More than 950 new homes will be built as part of plans to regenerate Sheerwater in Woking which has now been given the final go-ahead.

The new mixed-use development, which will be delivered by Thameswey Developments, will feature 522 open market homes and 462 affordable units – including 62 assisted living homes – along with a new retail centre, a mixed-use leisure centre building and sports pitches, new open space, improved transport links, fresh infrastructure and education, training and local employment opportunities.

The scheme will also include a community centre, health centre, nursery, sheltered housing and youth centre.

“After almost four years, I am pleased that we can now move forward with our plans to transform Sheerwater and residents can take comfort that a decision has at last been made,” said David Bittleston, Woking Borough Council’s portfolio holder for strategic housing development.

He added: “With this decision to proceed, it is now time to look confidently ahead and build momentum towards the project commencing on the ground during early 2018. The council and Thameswey Development Limited have all the necessary expertise and resources to deliver the Sheerwater Regeneration Scheme.

“We will support the whole of Sheerwater in building a thriving local community of which we can all be proud.”
