The National Landlords Association (NLA) has revealed that more renters in Wales are satisfied with their landlord than in any other part of the UK.

The NLA’s findings showed that 92% of renters in Wales were satisfied with their landlord. Those renting property in East Midlands were next best off, with 83% of those polled saying they were content with the service they were receiving.

However, satisfaction levels differ starkly when it comes to the regions on either side of the Pennines. While 82% of tenants based in the North West were pleased with their landlord, just 67% said the same in the North East. In fact, the North East had the lowest level of satisfaction among tenants in the UK as a whole.

Overall, across the UK, 79% (eight in ten tenants) are satisfied with the performance of their landlord.

“Good landlords make up the majority of the market so it’s not surprising that the majority of tenants are satisfied,” Richard Lambert, Chief Executive Officer at the NLA, said.

“Private renting is far from the insecure, uncertain and unhappy picture that it is often made out to be, and these findings will help to reassure existing renters and those looking to make their home in the private sector.”

He added: “The NLA provides a range of training and accreditation opportunities for landlords in order to help them develop and improve standards, which is good news for the minority of tenants who are dissatisfied.”

However, he also said that this is only part of the solution and that both central and local government must also commit more resources to tackling poor standards and weeding out bad/rogue landlords.
