Three announcements this week have shown a resurgence in property radio as more firms and organisations look to take advantage of increased interest in housing and investment.

LBC announced that it is introducing a new weekly show called ‘The Property Hour’, starting tomorrow.

The show, which will be sponsored by Direct Line for Business, will take place every Thursday on LBC between 9pm and 10pm.

Clive Bull will be joined by rental property and evictions expert Paul Shamplina to discuss the latest housing trends and issues.

The show will include a dedicated weekly three minute sponsored feature that will focus on specific issues facing landlords.

“Having worked at the sharp end of the property industry for more than 25 years helping landlords with problem tenants, I’d like to think I’ve nearly seen it all, but still some cases surprise me,” says Paul Shamplina.

“Education is key, particularly for amateur landlords entering the world of buy-to-let for the first time, which is why I’m thrilled to be co-hosting The Property Hour.”

Listeners will be invited to phone into the show and also join the debate online using #LBCPropertyHour.

Meanwhile, there will also be a property show on soon-to-launch station talkRADIO, sister channel to talkSPORT.

‘Gazumped’ will be fronted by Homes Under the Hammer host Martin Roberts and will be broadcast twice weekly on Saturday at 11am to 1pm and on Sundays at 5pm to 7pm.

The show sounds like it will have more of a consumer focus than LBC’s offering and its organisers say it will include ‘colourful features on the property market, home improvements, celebrity and dream houses’ as well as content on interiors and gardens.

“People love to read and hear about the property market, so to bring an entertaining, magazine-style property show to talkRADIO is something that I’m really looking forward to,” says Roberts.

“Where and how people live plays a fundamental role in their everyday lives, so we’re planning to tackle all aspects of property in a way that is informative and most of all, fun.”

The final announcement came from North West auction house Edward Mellor, which is using a radio campaign on Smooth FM to promote its auction services.

The series of commercials are voiced by James Nesbitt, Fay Ripley, John Thompson and Hermoine Norris, the cast of cult comedy drama series Cold Feet – which is set for a return to our screens later this year for this first time since 2003.

The theme of the commercials is centred around the premise that selling a property helps you to move on in life, whatever the reasons or circumstances are.

Edward Mellor describes the campaign as potentially ‘the marketing coup of the year’ and the firm’s managing director, Peter Barlow, says he is ‘really excited’ about the ads.

“It’s testament to the vision and determination of the Smooth FM team that we were able to secure such recognisable and popular voices, and also a welcome stroke of luck that they were all based in Manchester for filming at the time the commercials were recorded,” says Barlow.
