Students becoming more picky with rental accommodation

Students are expecting much more from their rental property, with a third of students requesting an en suite bathroom or shower room, it has been revealed.

According to a recent report from Glide Utilities, en suite bathrooms are a must, as are a large bedroom space, with 61% of students expecting each bedroom to contain a double bed.

With half of student renters choosing privately rented accommodation, it’s important for letting agents and landlords to understand exactly what is required from a rental property.

Almost 15% of landlords and letting agents claimed in the report that they feared they would be unsuccessful in letting their property by the start of the current academic year.

According to research from Glide Utilities, two thirds of tenants have experienced an issue with their landlord or letting agent, with 39% complaining of a lack of response, so the key to a successful tenancy for prospective landlords is to be attentive to each and every tenant.

Glide’s Youth Insight Consultant Brett Booth also added that using digital media to entice the younger demographic is key. Using social media platforms, photography and videos should all be maximised to net a student tenant, it has been claimed.
