Select Property Group has joined forces with property company Bruntwood to redevelop a former BBC site in Manchester’s city centre.

Select has been chosen as Bruntwood’s partner for the residential section of the firm’s new £750m, mixed-use scheme planned for the site in The Corridor Innovation District.

Manchester City Council endorsed the masterplan in April, with the development set to include 1.2m sq ft of offices, delivered by Bruntwood alongside Manchester Science Partnerships, its science and technology arm.

Meanwhile, Select are drawing up detailed plans for the 4 residential blocks to be housed within the site. These will contain 650 studio, one, two and three bedroom apartments, together with two serviced apartment buildings. They will mostly be occupied by international students.

“We chose to work alongside Select due to the strong alignment of their customer focussed proposition with ours,” Chris Oglesby, CEO of Bruntwood, commented. “Working together, we aim to deliver a fully integrated residential and commercial community to our target market.”

He added: “It is, however, their customers and ongoing management of the residential space alongside our management of the commercial and wider place that will create a truly distinctive new community that will help drive this city’s continued growth.”

The CEO of Select, Mark Stott, believes the joint venture is a significant milestone for both the business and the city of Manchester as a whole.

“We’re delighted to announce this collaboration and be part of the creation of a forward-looking destination that will be unlike anything in the city,” he said. “Bruntwood and Select’s shared approach for creating spaces that put people first will ensure we deliver a legacy for generations, while contributing to the city’s continued economic and cultural success.”
