A new survey by consumer group Which? has revealed that customers of smaller broadband providers are much happier than those of the sector’s big three – BT, TalkTalk and Sky.

In the study, the UK’s three largest broadband providers scored below 50% on customer satisfaction, whereas smaller providers received scores of over 70%.

“Smaller suppliers are leaving larger rivals in their wake when it comes to the service they provide so we need to see the big players up their game,” Richard Lloyd, executive director at Which?, commented.

Which?, as part of its “Give us Broadband Speed Guaranteed” campaign, is calling for improved levels of service and providers delivering on the promises they advertise. As things stand, providers are allowed to advertise broadband speeds that only 10% of customers actually receive.

The consumer watchdog wants to change the status quo by getting The Committee of Advertising Practice (CAP) and The Broadcasting Committee of Advertising Practice (BCAP) to tighten the rules in order to ‘ensure advertised broadband speeds more closely match the real experience of most customers’.

Its campaign, which has over 50,000 supporters already, is also asking for advertising speed claims – terms like ‘superfast’, for example – to be quantified by broadband providers. At TenTel we don’t make promises we can’t keep, but what we do offer is reasonably priced, reliable and flexible broadband packages, with no hidden connection or cancellation charges.

Which? is also campaigning for ‘people to be allowed to exit contracts without penalty if they don’t get the minimum speed estimated at any point in their contract’. This wouldn’t be an issue if you decided to use TenTel internet as we operate a no-contract policy, offering our customers high levels of flexibility. We know that circumstances can change quite suddenly and we don’t believe it is right for people to be tied into 12 or even 18 month contracts.

What we aim to provide is simple, value for money, customer-focused broadband deals. To this end, we offer free installation, free delivery and a free wireless router.
