According to a recent article published by the BBC, there has been an increase in complaints about how Councils are choosing to house the homeless.

On 31st March 2013, there were 4,500 households in bed and breakfast accommodation compared with 2,310 on the same date in 2011. Needless to say, this isn’t ideal. But it’s a last resort for Councils if there are no other vacant solutions for temporary accommodation.

In order to help resolve this issue, we urgently need more Landlords to let their properties to people in receipt of housing benefit.

Roger Harding, head of policy, research and public affairs at Shelter says. "It's often job loss or an illness that tip families into needing housing benefit for short periods to help get themselves back on their feet. Without a stable place to live, that is almost impossible."

Contrary to popular misconceptions, tenants on benefits often prove to be more reliable long-term and look after the property. They need to make it work because they haven't alternative options and therefore can’t risk eviction.

Orchard & Shipman, a nationwide social housing company offers a very compelling proposition to today’s socially aware Landlords; ensuring high rental incomes, guaranteed rent without voids, long term lease periods and no hidden costs.

Working with Local Authorities and central government to provide social housing solutions, Orchard & Shipman offer generous cash incentives to private Landlords who make their properties available to Let for people in receipt of housing benefit in recognition of their contribution in helping the social housing crisis.

Orchard & Shipman’s nationwide portfolio of over 3,500 Landlords profit from monthly rental incomes that compete favourably with the annual average achieved through Orchard & Shipman’s competitors. With generous new Landlord incentives coupled with a quality service offering, Landlords can now benefit from cash rewards, minimal risks, minimal expenses, and no hidden costs. Orchard & Shipman’s current proposition to Landlords includes:

·        Generous cash incentives

·        Long-term leases of up to 5 years

·        Guaranteed monthly rent with no voids

·        Protection against tenant damage

·        A fully managed service

·        No legal fees
