10 Downing Street has been sold for just £43,000. Not, of course, the world-famous one in London that is at the centre of British politics and home to the Prime Minister, but a traditional three storey two bedroomed end-terraced house in Sutton in Ashfield, Nottingham.

“In Westminster, the Prime Minister’s home is five times the size and would fetch £50million – or rent for £45,000 a week,” London based Pastor Real Estate said. Effectively, then, the Downing Street in Nottingham was sold for less than what a week’s rent would cost at the Downing Street in London.

Graham Penny Auctions on Wheeler Gate put the property up for sale on September 4th and it was sold for £43,000 only five days after to Simon Waldram.

“I admit that I did laugh when I saw that 10 Downing Street was for sale but then I saw it was tenanted and I seriously started thinking about buying it,” Waldram explained. “I have a portfolio of tenanted properties and I looked at the lots on offer with Graham Penny Auctions, as I do for every auction, to see what I could buy next. I never thought I’d be able to say I’m the owner of 10 Downing Street!”

The property requires some improvements to make it more aesthetically pleasing, but a little upgrading and TLC is expected to produce a healthy return for Waldram. The property also represents a great investment because of its association with No 10, one of the most famous addresses in the world.
